Run time stock with Alkaline batteries are about 15-20 minutes.

Battery upgrades
IC3s (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?cat=3945&dept=3944&product_id=2360962&path=0%3A3944%3A3945%3A57907%3A4411) These will offer the same if not slightly better run times, but can be recharged in just 15 minutes. They will save you tons of money in the long run if you wish to run AAs.
Orion (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEKX4&P=ML) I have no experience with these yet, but I hear they're good.
Both Blind (http://www.blindbatts.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=59) and United (http://urc.planetrocke.com/store/product.asp?ID=13) offer premium packs that will out perform most I've seen. These will offer much, much more power to the truck, (even stock) but take 1 to 1-1/2 hrs to charge.

Motors

Orion's Baja (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFWS4&P=ML) is a popular choice and offers much speed.
Beast Raptor (http://shop.one18th.com/product_info.php?cPath=39_55&products_id=168) is also an excellent choice and is a very popular motor for the Mini-T.

Of course you would be suprised at how much of a difference the bearing upgrade will have on the truck so I would make this my 1st upgrade as it's cheap, easy to install and is much needed when upgrading the motor and/or batteries.
After you've upgraded your motor and batteries I would say the next upgrade will probably be pinions as the higher speeds tend to wear out the stock pinion.
Upgrading the electronics is nice too, but no necessary depnending on your application.
Shocks are a nice upgrade, but again, depends on your application.
Anything after that is personal liking.

I have the orion battery (1200) and the baja; both are great. The run time is ~10-15 min and mine probably goes ~20mph with a 12T pinion. I'm not sure what turn the baja would be???? You could also go with a new motor plate and get a graupner (sp?) speed 300. I've heard those are fast, but I haven't seen one in action.

Oh yeah, 2xcongrats on the B-day and the purchase. :D

Fortunately after market companies have made it limitless to the ways you can upgrade or modify 1/18 scale RCs especially the Mini-T so you have many, many choices to which motor or battery you can use. If you really wanna see some speed and long run times go Brushless/Li-Po. :D

in my mini-t i have the baja, some radioshack 2000 mah batts, new tires, and the oil shocks

the mini t is funn as hell, i got the baja befor the batts and it runs faster w/ 4.8 rechargable vots then 6 alkeline volts. rechargable batteries can handle the current from the motors way better then alkalines which = a faster truck. rechargable batts should be 1st on the list then the baja and then the shocks

Right now I have a stock Mini T with a Venom Racing 6 cell. Its fun as hell, but I think I am going to order the Baja soon. What else do I need besides the motor?

The oil filled shocks are nice. I have the losi ones; they're not bad. They do leak a little though. I guess losi will send some more shims if you call/email them but I've been to lazy. GPM makes some threaded bdy shocks for the mini-t which I believe are ~ the same price as the losi ones. Goes to check.......well the losi one is 26.95 I wasn't able to find the gpm prices.

The ball bearing set is also a good choice

EDIT: oh yeah if you're getting the baja you will also want to get a metal pinion; my plastic one tore out in less than 5 feet. I use a hpi steel 12T, but I had to dremel the set screw to avoid interference. I think there are other pinions that that don't require modification, but I'm not sure which ones.
