Is there a difference in radio crystals between manufacturers? Can Futaba crystals work in an Airtronics radio? I am asking because all of the hobby shops around me don't stock Airtronics.

Thanks

Oops. Just noticed that this is in the wron forum. Moderators, please move it for me.

Thanks

anyways....yes crystals from manufacturer A will work in B.

I accedently broke one of my cryastals, so i wound up yanking some out of a radioshack car. All crylstals are pretty much the same.

I guess this works but would you trust your several hundred dollar car with some penny crystals? I rather put the car on the shelf and buy xtals even if i have to wait a month rather than put in some radioshack junk. Thats just me though!

Well like Krasi said, they're NOT the same when it comes to AM vs FM, 75 vs 27 - but on the same band and frequency, yeah. As for quality, they are pretty much the same, probably all made in a third world country and a radio shack 27 mhz is most likely going to be as good as a set of $20 Futabas. :D If you can make it work, it will work.

Radio Shack sells a 6 channel set of 27mhz crystals for like $15 Thats 6 different frequency sets for $15 total.

Ive been using radioshack xmods crystals in my futaba, hpi Tx andRx and have had NO problems.

there the same in my opinion.

the frequencies are inbetween the regular 1-6.

Ive heard that europe has all 12 availible on 27 mhz."someone let me know if this is a lie"

Ive used them for months. have had no interfearence with any "regular" freq.

ignore my thread about xmod crystals- i have never looked at xmods but was at the shack yesterday looking around and thought they looked like they would work and were heck of a cheap deal too

Thats weird because I have a set of KO Crystals (75Mhz, Ch. 90) that doesnt work in any of my JR Radios or Receivers (also 75Mhz).

they are all FM Crystals too...

Sorry, I should of included a bit more info.

This is for my Airtronics M8 on 75 MHz FM.

I've read that Airtronics use 'positive shift' crystals and Futaba use 'negative shift' crystals and, as a result, are incompatible.

I don't know what the difference is between positive and negative shift, so I was looking for a bit of clarification.

Thanks

PS. This should have been posted in the 'RC Electronics' forum, not the General forum.
