07-07-2004, 01:41 AM
Mine was a Fisher Price Buggy, fully functional....no turn in reverse crap. :D really tuff thing too i still have it and it looks new! the radio has the layout of the first futaba wheel transmitter, only kinda like a ray gun, the throttle is on the handle and a steering wheel is where the top of the gun would be...lol....

what was yours? :D

07-07-2004, 02:27 AM
Bolink Digger shortly followed by an RC10 black-aluminum-tubbed buggy (RC10 B2??). I was about 10 or so.

07-07-2004, 02:48 AM
I had a lil 2wd Buggy Called an Invader. I dont know who it was made by...maybe Nikko, it was 4.8V :D

07-07-2004, 07:53 AM
Can't remember the first toy R/C I had but the first proper was a Kyosho Big Boss.

07-07-2004, 08:11 AM
Mine was a nikko truck. I was 8.

07-07-2004, 10:16 AM
I got a Tyco something or other at the age of 12(some 10 years ago), it was rubbish, fully functional but it had no suspension, and its was gimmicky as it was called something like the "python" cuz you pressed a button and a python sort rose up from it and sprayed water everywhere. it didnt even have the ground clearance to run on grass, so it kinda put me off RC for a while.....

then I got a TL01 at the age of 17 having seen and played with a mates TL01 focus.....it was my first proper RC ......now 5 years on I still own it, the body shell is long since deceased but oh well.....

07-07-2004, 10:59 AM
mine was nikko truck followed by nikko buggy i have recently scrapped them for any thing useful and my 1st real rc was a nitro hammer

07-07-2004, 11:11 AM
Tamiya Boomerang here. I got this when my father came back from Korea after his 1 year tour there with the 82nd Airborne.

Was a fun car, around the time when the Super Lobos were popular, The neighbor's dad would always race up and down the street whipping up on the kids who had cheap tycos.

I still remember when I raced his with my Boomerang, I don't think he brought it out again after that day :D

07-07-2004, 11:48 AM
tamiya frog.....used to be my bros then he gave it to me :)i was like 8 (or so)?

07-07-2004, 01:32 PM
i've played with Tyco's since i was 5 but i got my first hobby grade RC when i was about 12 and it was a TC3 Racer kit.

07-07-2004, 01:48 PM
I got a rc10t2 from santa!! (when i was 6)

07-07-2004, 02:11 PM
Ive had toy RCs since i was 3.. But i got my first real Rc when i was 10 which was an RC10T.. Now im 19 and ive got an RC10T3(oldy but a goody), Rc10GT, And a .24 T-Maxx...
Ive been racing since i got my T and ive got a few nationals, regionals and state championship wins...

07-07-2004, 02:40 PM
First RC ever was some blue thing. Fully functional, made by tyco. It was pretty quick actually, stuff a larger motor in that sucker and it would've probably hauled. First real RC I got was an RC10T3. Slowly, I am still upgrading it.

07-07-2004, 04:02 PM
Back in 1987 i bought a Tamiya Monster Beetle, I still have it and it still runs great, i've since added bearings all around and a trinity monster motor, and run it with a new adspec radio.

07-07-2004, 04:03 PM
Mine didn't have suspension either, but it kept be busy...it was and is good for carpet and hard surfaces...i remember slamming it into reverse and making it slide all over cause the tires are really hard rubber, more like a plastic almost...lol.

07-07-2004, 04:30 PM
Can't remember all the Tyco and RS and Nikko cars I had, but my first hobby quality r/c vehicle was an HPI RS4 MT. LMAO, that was back in the day when I didn't have a clue, ran a Speed Gems 17 turn w/ the same gearing whether I was running the stock tires on the street or the Masher 2K's in the snow...melted the endbell. I must say, that motor went through hell and back, and powered that truck through just about anything, even when ridiculously overgeared.

07-07-2004, 06:45 PM
My first rc car was a Tyco Bandit. I loved that little truck and I went through several of them as well as some others before I got my first real rc car a Tamiya Super Blackfoot which I still own.

07-07-2004, 06:52 PM
My first was a kyosho rampage. I sold it to my cousin's husband about 7 years ago and he still has it as his only RC. He's a machinist, so he made some aluminum wheels and painted a new body. It still looks and runs great.

07-08-2004, 05:13 PM
My first ever RC was this nikko chevy truck i got when i has about 7. it had to be one of the worlds toughest pieces on plastic ever. i remember launching the thing down a fisher price slide while a freind pulled back on it. after geting about 2 seconds of airtime and doing multiple rollover, it would land back on its wheels unscathed. My E-Maxx wouldve prolly blew up or divorced me or something.

first hobby-class Rc was my TL01 i got about 3 years ago (i got it the date i registered here) i still have that Pennzoil nismo shell too (im probably gonna repaint it all black or something though since its still in good condition)

07-08-2004, 06:14 PM
mine was a nikkio buggy thing my uncle got me and it was the coolest nikkio one i ever had. It would run threw anything and it took a beating. Then I got some more nikkio ones but they were crap comared to this one

07-08-2004, 08:26 PM
I think that rc cars are just getting crappier and crappier, the toy ones of course, not hobby quality, they're getting better! But what i mean is, they make too many cheap ones made just to amuse young kids...they stray away from even giving it functional steering... i saw a rc truck at a thrift store that had lights, and switchable 4wd, now they are ither 4wd and 2wd...never have transfer cases! and the old tamiya toyotas, i forgot what they are called but they are so real, i wish they still made them. leaf sprin suspension, solid axle... look identical to the real thing. can't find anything like that now...

tl-01 4 Life
07-08-2004, 08:30 PM
Mine was a Tyco Scorcher, I thought that thing flew until I pulled it out a few weeks ago and noticed it was only going like 10mph.

-tl-01 4 Life-

07-08-2004, 08:58 PM
lol...yeah toys do seem lame after taking a good rc past 40mph....

07-08-2004, 10:21 PM
<---- RC10 Nitro Dual Sport

07-08-2004, 10:44 PM
Kyosho Outrage 2WD Buggy. With a powerful mabuchi 540 motor!

07-08-2004, 11:33 PM
that i can remember

Electric Nikko 959 Porsche

It was sooo cool  ,it had headlights and when you pushed the throttle they came on automatically. I remember it comming with two pairs of racings slicks , and two pairs of knobby rally tires. I think it had some other stuff ,but my memory is getting blurry.... lol :D

I found a photo from another website

First RC was a red Nikko buggy. I got 8 AA nicads, but only a four cell charger, since it took 18 hours to charge I could only run it every 2-3 days.

My first hobby-class car was a Kyosho Optima Mid. Still hands down my favorite car I ever owned. Bashed it for years, the only thing that ever broke was a few front a-arms.

07-09-2004, 12:25 AM
mine was a sand master i now have an rs4 3 its great modded to the max.

07-09-2004, 03:11 AM

My first real RC car was a Tamiya Hornet. It was a great car. That thing was
tough! A friend of mine had one also and we abused them constantly. The only time I ever broke it was when racing.(Yes, I used to race carpet oval with it)

After that, I moved on to RC10's and 10T's, Tamiya 1/12 scale and Bolink 1/10
scale pan cars, Kyosh Turbo Optima, ect, ect, and now a T-Maxx.

I still have all of them except the Hornet. Wish I never sold my origional one,
but I have another Hornet.

My wife thinks that I am crazy, but my sons love it. :D

07-19-2004, 12:10 AM
cool! I have an old new bright porsche sitting on a shelf, it's pretty cool...loud sterring motor and dosen't go very fast...(on a cord) but looks nice :D

07-19-2004, 12:28 AM
Tamiya frog or a Big Bear. Not sure which I got first.

07-19-2004, 12:35 AM
first real RC was a RC10B3, i still drive it today ^^x.

07-19-2004, 12:38 AM
My First R/c Was Super Lobo Bought From Sears Back In The Mid 80's,and Shortly After When I Found Out That People Raced These Things (r/c Cars)and Was Laughed At For Bringing My Lobo To The Track, I Bought A Kyosho Triumph And Raced It For A Few Years And When I Thought That I Was Done With R/c, I Sold It(worst Move Of My R/c Career) Cuzz It Was By Far My Favorite Car And I Bet It Could Still Be Competitive Today.

If Anybody Knows Where I Can Find Another One Please Let Me Know, I Miss My Baby.

07-19-2004, 12:52 AM
first hobby grade rc was tamiya blackfoot

still have it. need a few parts though...

07-19-2004, 08:13 PM
Hornet. Then a Nikko Dominator. Then a Falcon, and Big Wig. Back in the mid 80's of course.

07-19-2004, 10:25 PM
my first r/c car was a nikko big bubba monster truck. i was about 3 or 4 and i think i still have it somewhere. that thing was so cool

07-19-2004, 10:29 PM
Mine was a tyco Bandit 9.6v that thing was fast back then.

07-19-2004, 11:33 PM
one of the 1st nitro rustlers made...i was only 10 or 11 amd didn't know anything about it, so needless to say i quit the hobby for a while. then maybe half a year ago i got a new nitro rustler, and now i use my old one for spare parts

07-20-2004, 06:38 PM
I've had my share of Nikko and RadioShack type cars, including a few zipzap mini rc cars, but my first hobby class car was a traxxas ruster. Great (cheap) stadium truck, and I still occasionally use it for bashin.

07-20-2004, 07:06 PM
and the old tamiya toyotas, i forgot what they are called but they are so real, i wish they still made them. leaf sprin suspension, solid axle... look identical to the real thing. can't find anything like that now...

Tamiya Hilux, Blazing blazer, Bruiser and mountaineer - collectivley known as the Tamiya 3 speeds. I beleive these are the trucks you are thinking of..

I have a bruiser, I'd like to say it was my first RC, but given that when it was made I was like 2 years old thats highly unlikely. :p

I would post a pic but my picture host(photoisland.com) is down right now... :(

07-20-2004, 11:04 PM
yes....those are the ones!! wish i could find one for cheap...i'd buy it in a heartbeat.

07-21-2004, 01:54 PM
lol...... yeah if I could find them cheap I'd have a whole bunch by now....

Mine cost 405 on ebay.co.uk (I'm in the UK)...thats about - $730ish

but here she is:

07-21-2004, 03:33 PM
Sears Lobo, must have been about 7 years old; so about 19 years ago. then moved on to a blackfoot and boomerang.

07-22-2004, 06:39 AM
Had a RadioShack F40 when I was a kid, took a mountain of batteries, broke it a week later, but I was hooked!. Started backinto Rc witha coupe of Mini-Z's a couple of years ago, bought my first 1/10 scaler about 3 months ago, a Tamiya Mini.

07-22-2004, 10:00 AM
Tamiya Grasshopper was my first. Bashed the heck out of it. Tried racing it once but got killed at the track by Boomerangs and Big Wigs. They were the only cars that stayed together on the rolling rink jumps they installed. I remember I bought Parma Blue alum shocks for it and one jump and when it landed I remember it blew all 4 shocks out. I laughed but my dad wasnt too happy since he paid a boal load of money for them.

Moved onto a Tamiya King Cab (Loved racing this truck)

Then the Kyosho Sideways (Nothing better than racing these on Clay Oval)

Then a Kyosho Ultima - Ran carpet oval with it.

Then finally got a real racer - The Losi JRXT truck. Awesome ride, still have it in mint condition.

07-22-2004, 10:38 AM
My first hobby-class RC was a Tamiya Subaru Brat. I had Tamiya's exclusively until the RC10 came out. Never understood the allure of the Marui Big Bears. The first ever RC I remember is one of those go-straight-turn-in-reverse jobs. Had a spiderman theme I think. This was back in the mid-70's, when I was like 7 or 8.

07-22-2004, 11:20 AM
tamiya blackfoot for me.

Ultima Pro XL
07-22-2004, 06:36 PM
Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid SE for me. I didn't start off with a easy car to learn with. It was a top of the line electric 4WD in it's time. I still have it today but only as a display and not for running. I had to get a Ultima Pro XL not too long after the Mid because I was the only person with a 4WD car at the track and so a 2WD car was a must. I LOVE my Optima and Ultima!

07-24-2004, 07:15 PM
Mine was a truck that could transform from a car to a truck whith a push of a button. Took it apart with 2 screwdrivers and a hammer. :D

07-25-2004, 01:22 AM
I've had them since I was little. But, I guess you can say the first tuneable one was the Kyosho Nitro Quad Rider. It looked cool but wasn't very performance oriented...

07-25-2004, 03:15 PM
GOsh it was a RC playskool police car. MAn I loved that thing, had lights and sound and every thing. snif snif it's gone now.

07-25-2004, 10:42 PM
My first one was a Tamiya Hot Shot2 4wd buggy.
I broke the car right after assembling and running it for the first time. :(

It was a heart breaker...
