It would certainly cost you a lot less to have a subsciption, but that's your call...

Yeah, I have been reading RCCA for 5 Years!!!! And havnt subscribed. I have good reason though. I know as soon as I order I will not get the next issue, and then my subscipition will come for the next month and I'll miss an issue, I probably shoud just order and maybe end up with an extra issue, cause lets see, I ve spent about $270!!! AH I ve never seen how much, that s a new car!!!! OK im ordering right out of my july issue now!! Oh yeah by the way its a great issue!!!!

i've been reading rcca since mid 1996 since before i turned twelve and i'm almost sixteen
(gee, maybe i should stop bying r/c cars and save for a real one. hmmm..but... naah.) and in january of 1997 I subscribed and my mom has gladly renewed my subscription to RCCA every year since. trust me $20 a year is alot better than $60+tax. so save your paycheck, allowance whatever the case for a couple weeks trust me it's worth it. but if you enjoy paying 3x's more for everything, more power to you then. just my 2 cents (actually more like a buck-fifty but whatever).

I hadn't had a subscription until recently, so I had bought all the way through the July issue. Anyway, when the first issue of the subscription showed up yesterday, it was the June issue! The July issue has been out for a couple weeks at the bookstore! It seems I can get the issues a lot sooner (like a month) if I go down and buy it at a bookstore. So, I guess you just pay for convenience.

dude, I get my issues before the hobby store guys even know when their shipments are going to get in. I think maybe they made a mistake.

If you have a subscription you will almost certainly get your issue before the stores. I think when you first subscribe they send you the previous months issue.
