You can use a different reciever as long as it has the same mhz. I use a Hitec shredder with my Magnum Junior with out any major problems.

You need to be careful. If a radio is designed for use with one type of receiver, it may not work with another, and could possibly cause damage to either the receiver or the servos. One issue is the wiring. Some servos are wired differently than others, and connecting them or the power for the receiver may cause damage. The second issue is the method of transmitting and receiving a signal. Some radios are positive shift systems, while others are negative shift. If the receiver isn't matched to the radio, it won't work at all.
