View Full Version : How fast can your RC car(s) go?

The Burner

Lo all.
Just wondering how fast (approx) your RC cars can go.
My Tamiya Fiat Abarth can get about 20mph and my brother's buggy can reach about 30mph.

How fast can your cars go? (electric or nitro or whatever)

Cheers.

uummmm last time i checked....
TC3 with a P2K pro - 21mph
T3 with 14X3 P-94 - 42mph
T-maxx - 32mph

My evader st (electric) with 17 turn sapphire goes about 28 i think

Depends on how I gear them and let them spool up. My CRC Carpet Knife in race trim will do about 25, but that's geared low for carpet racing in 6 foot wide lanes in stock class. My HPI Super F1 is geared for 70, but gets sideways at 45 to 50 (3/4 throttle) with a 10x2 D4... and yes the ESC gets very hot, and I've blown the drop fuse on it. I'm selling my 10 cell funny car... it would hit about 80 if I geared it right and let it spool up... maybe more, 7x1 D4. I only run electric.

TC3 with a P2K pro - 21mph
T3 with 14X3 P-94 - 42mphI think you got those backwards.

My XXX KE buggy goes anywhere from 25-30. :)

no i didn't.
my TC3 is set for stock racing and my T3 is geared for racing as well. i'm kinda high on my pinion teeth, thats why i get that speed but with the pinion i have on it it gets horrible acceleration. you kinda right though. when i'm geared for racing i get around 35.

I have gotten my pan car to about 55 estimated with a novak dually, 31/95 gearing, and a trinity 12turn double(I went just a little bit slower than my friends nitro 4-tec when I was using an 31/120 gearing). It is extremly hard to control when I take off because of the high gearing and because the car only wieghts like 2 pounds loaded. I alos have a hard time with not enough rear tractiion because I am using a dodge viper body and a tiny wing.:( I need to get the proto-form porshe gt1 body.:(

my hpi erally might hit 27-30 with a p2k pro and 26/90 gearing.

my tl01 maybe 20-25 with reedy mvp and running the 21 tooth pinon, and the kit gears.with speed tuned gears 30+

I'm working on a 12th scale speed project... 8 cells, 7x1 motor (until brushless comes out in good force), and a GTP style body. I'll call it "cheap-speed" at first.

FrankW
06-06-2002, 03:37 PM
I have no clue... but I'd esitimate in the high 70s, maybe 80s if I can find an area big enough, or use a velodrome. The problem is going to be controlling it. A very short wheelbase car at freeway speeds? Gonna be crazy.

I want to get a microswitch for my TC3 and hook it up the 14.4 volts of raw power!!! I might try an 8 turn motor and see how it runs. Oh, yeah: anyone who tries to do something like this: TURN DOWN THE STEERING RATE!!! Those who don't will meet their friendly neighborhood curb. Bring a dustpan.:D

Zr2
06-06-2002, 04:15 PM
If I ran a micro switch in any of my cars I wouldn't drive em unless I was in a wiiiiide open area with nothing to hit, but even then I'd hit myself with the car.:p I thought about putting a micro switch in my boat and running dual 16x2's with 14.4 volts. but then I decided not to.

I have never clocked it or any thing, but I'm guessing my Twin-motor TA03 goes around 45-50mph, and TL-01 less then 20mph,

MrHorspwer
06-07-2002, 12:43 PM
My TA-04 w/ Trinity Midnight = 21 mph
Friends TC3 w/ Trinity P2k = 21 mph

20-24 seems to be about the average speed for stock motor carpet at my local track... verified w/ radar gun of course, no guessing

My TL01 w/ stock can = you can walk faster... 14mph:D
My TL01 w/ Midnight = 19 mph
Friends TL01 w/ 15T Rush = 22 mph

I have come to the conslusion that TL01's have way to much drivetrain to be fast... mainly judged by the 15T's very low speed... the same friend had a speed tuned that he never used because I could honestly drive circles around him while he was acclerating :D When we found this out... at about the same time... we bought real cars and set aside the TL01 as toys.

My T-MAXX does 57.8 right now and when I get my second .21 working it will do about high 60's then when i install my 3 speed tranny on it and get a quality pipe it will do a lil more than 80 or high 70's.

My schumacher .21XT-R does about 75mph,

My max st does 38 something mph

My E-MAXX does 33.4mph

My EK-4 I dont know but will find out tomorrow.

all my other vehicles have not been tested.

this is a estimated guess.

I think that my T-Maxx (.21, Duratrax torq .21) can reach speeds near 35 MPH

and My Duratrax Axis (RB-S7, 15 tooth clutchbell) near 40 MPH.

Are you sure it's 74 MPH and not 74 feet per second? MPH=2/3FPS, roughly

To get miles per hour you would have to measure time in hours and distance in miles to get MPH, or else do it mathematically.

74 MPH is easily possible for a Dragster, no doubt. A Pan car running 6 cells & a 6 turn will reach somewhere around 65-70.

T9D
06-11-2002, 03:05 PM
I wasn't doubting that it was possible, he just said he used rate=distance/time, which wouldn't compute directly to MPH if he was timing a typical drag run, measured in feet and seconds

4W Drifter
06-11-2002, 08:11 PM
Actually what I used was meters per second which was eventually converted to mph. (See? Physics class can be useful!) And I think the Bolink can get even faster because it ran out of gear pretty quick! I hope to hit 80 mabie 85 eventually.:D

dan7532

pkny- You can use good old math to calculate distance over time. You see how long it takes to go a certain distance (or how much distance covered in a certain amount of time) then convert it to Miles per Hour.

ok, ya got me. it only goes about 87. but when i figure out a way to strap on this squarebore holley double pumper to my .15 watch out!! i swear i got an easy 10mph gain by indexing my glowplug alone.

Mark98SS
06-27-2002, 06:03 PM
It full pulls on carpet in the 400 range. National level trucks are in the 600+ catagory. Actually it'd prolly pull better if the reduction was 60:1 or so. There'd be alot more wheel speed to help get some momentum early in the run.

Anthony
06-27-2002, 06:17 PM
its better to have torque rather than speed becuse what happens if you lose speed? you stop right if you have all touque you can get a good pull with out loseing any thing

Zr2
06-27-2002, 06:55 PM
I think you'd have to find the best gear ratio. Dont you want enough torqe to get the sled movin and then you want enough speed so when the moving part on the sled hits the front and stops you need momentem(sp?) to keep the truck pulling the sled to the end.
Wow that just shows I dont pay attention in English class. Can anyone say run on sentance and bad spelling?

Anthony the TXT-1 weighs nowhere hear 28 or even 20lbs., even in full run ready trim with batts and motors.

InspGadgt
06-28-2002, 07:20 PM
Yes it was an oval...and yes it had long straights...it was on a Bicycle Velodrome in Domingues Hills CA. Averaged because that's all that Autoscore gives you is an average speed based on the length of the driving line of the track and the time it takes to complete a lap. Mike Walker the owner of Twister at the time was cool enough to wind me a team 14X6 mod motor for the race and give me the team discount. The 69mph run was actually done with a Blueprinte Twister 16X2. The 14X6 was so fast it scared the bejeezus outta me and I flew the car off the embankment...luckily nothing was broken. Car was geared at 3.33:1. After qualifying in the A with the 16X2 I put the 14X6 in and ran 3 practice runs at the end of the day with it. It was blistering fast. Faster than the TQ time by a lot! Unfortunately I missed the mains due to a cold solder joint in the battery. Man that was a lot of fun! :D

You can easily a hundred mph for about $400. My Schumacher 21 XTR ran 40mph with the factory pipe and tranny. With the tuned pipe and 3 speed it will run 107mph. vsnakebytev
06-29-2002, 10:17 PM
107... ok ok come on. What pipe, tranny and engine are you using? I am sorry but that is hard to believe.

Its a cop radar gun and a S T none the less their set higher so they can pull more people over and give them something to do. come on my neighbor does it all the time. he just says he will give them a warning this time, and try to be more careful:D

bohica
06-30-2002, 11:32 AM
The radar gun in question is way too far out of my area of expertise to comment on so if you have questions or doubts concerning the validity of his reading you can contact the Ky. State police and question them about it. I am sure they would help you out. Especially considering your accusations of fraudulent traffic stops.:)

The 3 speed tranny is #u2372P, used in conjunction with the auto box; speeds above 107 are attainable if you have room.

The pipe is a custom alloy. It was made for me by Mike at E-hobby RC.

The engine is the factory 21 XTR with 2.1 BHP @ 40K.

If you guys don't believe that is fine it is the internet isn't it? I could be some 90 year old grandma from Wisconson! LOL!

Seriously, don't say somethings impossible till you try it yourself. A Shumacher 21 XTR is, I believe the fastest 1/10 vehicle in production. I could be wrong but I doubt it as I don't think their is another FACTORY kit in 1/10 offered with 21 power unless maybe it's one of the new generation of true monster trucks.

BTW, you could try it yourself for a tad over $400:)

I have run my TC3 with a micro switch and 14 cells with a 7X1. it clocks off at 98.3 mph with super speed gearing.96 spur 38 pinion in 64 pitch. I have custon batterybar and custom gears. The rear A-arms are custom and they will be marketed soon but will be very expensive as they shorten the wheelbase a ton for racing and are made of titanium but are lighter than plastic.

Zr2
06-30-2002, 02:38 PM
that gear set-up doesn't sound super fast... It sounds average like running a gear ratio of being less teeth on both the pinion and spur.
And if you had a big spur gear you would go slower...Which your spur seems pretty dang big.

How to Calculate MPH:

=Example=
-your car travels 200 feet in 4 seconds.....

Known-
-there are 60 seconds/minute
-there are 60 minutes/hour
-there are 5280 feet/mile

-----------------
200ft/4sec =

(200ft)(60sec)(60min)(1mile) / (4sec)(1min)(1hr)(5280ft)

=34.09 MPH (miles per hour)
