Here's a link to the USCG painting manuals, at the bottom of the list are the paint manuals for 1952, 1965, and 1973. The best color match for the color Spar (Buff) is Badger Model Flex Marine Colors - DECK TAN, 16-405. Go to Fred's Place and search for "Small Boat" in the photo album, you find pictures of the 40-footer from its entire USCG career.

Thanks for the information I have printed out the colour manual but I visited Freds Place and there are no photos of the 40ft boat just some of the newer 41 footer the boat Im looking for is the for runner of the 41 ft boat. The coastguard have taken it off their photos and it seems its no longer in service.
Thanks for the help though I will keep on trying.

You didn't look hard enough or didn't know what to look for. Hint: CG40xxx; 40'; 40 UTB; 40 patrol boat; forty footer; 40 ftr; etc. There are over 30 pictures of 40' UTB's on Fred's Place. Here are some of them; you'll have to find the others yourself.
40 footers at Base Mahattan, circa 1960
40375 heading back into Provincetown, circa 1975
40408 in Cape May Canal, 1963
1960's 40' patrol boat, Group Quoddy Head, Maine
40' Patrol Boat, Cross Island Station, 1960's
Beaching the 40 at Long Point; swim call
40' inspecting damage fro CGC INGHAM, Base Boston, June 1976
40' inspecting CGC INGHAM damage, photo 2
    CG 40555 & CG 44374 at Cleveland Station, 1963
    CG 40427 inbound for Alameda
    Milwaukee's 40' boat
    Plastic 40' from Miami
    CG 40572
    40445 Base New Orleans, 1973
CG 40499, St. Joseph, MI 1976
    Minor repairs on 40497, 1966
Wreck of the 40445, Base New Orleans, 1974
Wreck of the 40445, photo 2
    40472 out for annual overhaul
Forty footers at Pier 9 NYC, 1957

The last of the USCG 40 UTB was taken out of service in the early 1980's. Most had a steel hull; someexperimental boats had a plywood or fiberglass hull. Twin Diesel engines provided the power.

I would love to see the model of this particular 40 since I was the operator (BM3) and took that photo. They were a terriffic boat to handle. There might also be some old Coasties watching online at the USCG hangout, "Fred's Place". http://www.fredsplace.org/
